Stripe has made a strategic move to deepen its footprint in real-time payments by acquiring Orum, a US-based payments API specialist.

Stripe acquires Orum

The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but the acquisition marks Stripe’s latest step in consolidating its position across the payment infrastructure stack.

Founded in 2019 by fintech entrepreneur Stephany Kirkpatrick, Orum enables businesses to access a full spectrum of domestic US payment rails—RTP, FedNow, Same Day ACH, standard ACH, wires, and Visa Direct.

This attained through a single API, bypassing the need for complex bank integrations and regulatory overhead.

The company has raised $82 million from high-profile backers including Accel, Canapi Ventures, Bain Capital Ventures, and American Express Ventures.

Kirkpatrick, who will now join Stripe, described the acquisition as a natural evolution of Orum’s mission.

“It became clear that we have a rare opportunity to accelerate Orum’s mission and greatly increase our impact by becoming part of Stripe,” she noted in a blog post.

“Alongside Stripe’s world-class team, we will continue our shared mission to power a better financial system where everyone has the freedom to build to their own potential.”

This acquisition underscores Stripe’s growing ambition to offer enterprise-grade money movement services.

It follows closely on the heels of two crypto-related acquisitions: a $1.1 billion purchase of stablecoin infrastructure platform Bridge and a separate deal for digital asset wallet provider Privy.

By absorbing Orum, Stripe not only gains a team deeply embedded in US payment innovation but also strengthens its ability to serve enterprise clients looking for faster, more programmable ways to move money.

As real-time payments become a defining feature of modern financial infrastructure, Stripe’s bet on Orum could prove pivotal in staying ahead of both fintech disruptors and incumbent processors.
