In 2019, debit cards outnumbered credit / delayed debit cards by 2.21 to 1, up from 1.81 in 2014.

We can expect a further rise, partly to due to the pandemic but also due to consumers really getting to grips with mobile payments, digital wallets and other payment form factors which are helping to drive down cash usage across Europe.

Published yearly since 2002 the Digital and Card Payment Statistics Yearbooks are recognised across the payments industry as the most authoritative source of digital and card payments business information.
