Spanish financial services provider Banco Sabadell, in partnership with Telefonica and BlackBerry, have launched a pilot project for contactless payments with NFC-enabled mobile phones. Trial participants, which are also Banco Sabadell customers, can pay for purchases directly from their mobile phones which come with a Visa card built in the phone’s SIM card.

Pilot participants receive an NGC kit comprising a BlackBerry Curve smartphone, with built in NFC technology, together with the new "wallet application" by Telefonica and a SIM card with advanced protection features and storage of the financial card data.

These NFC mobile phones can be used in any establishment with a contactless PoS. Last year, Banco Sabadell started to introduce contactless technology in all the point of sale terminals of merchants and customer establishments.
