ACI Worldwide and Circle are working together to demonstrate how stablecoin settlement can be integrated into existing banking and payment infrastructure, with Colombia providing the first test market.

ACI Worldwide and Circle Test USDC Settlement
The initiative combines ACI Connetic, ACI Worldwide’s cloud-native payments orchestration platform, with Circle’s USDC infrastructure. The aim is to show financial institutions how regulated stablecoins could operate alongside conventional payment rails, treasury processes and governance frameworks rather than as a separate payments architecture.
The collaboration reflects a wider shift in the stablecoin debate. For banks, the question is moving away from whether digital dollars can technically be transferred and towards how they can be incorporated into existing operating environments without disrupting established controls.
Colombia Provides a Real-Time Payments Test Bed
The initial focus on Colombia is significant because ACI Worldwide developed the central infrastructure supporting Bre-B, the country’s interoperable instant-payments ecosystem.
Bre-B provides real-time account-to-account payment capabilities across the market, giving ACI and Circle a live environment in which to explore how USDC could complement existing domestic infrastructure.
The objective is not to replace local payment rails, but to assess how stablecoin settlement could sit alongside them in a broader multi-rail model.
That could be relevant for use cases where financial institutions want greater flexibility in settlement, particularly across different payment types and potentially across borders.
Stablecoins Move Closer to Existing Bank Operations
ACI Connetic is designed to bring together traditional payments, card transactions and digital assets within a single orchestration layer.
This matters because banks evaluating stablecoins still need to manage familiar operational requirements: liquidity, reconciliation, governance, settlement risk and integration with existing systems.
By placing USDC inside an orchestration framework, the collaboration is intended to let institutions test digital-asset settlement through processes they already understand.
Craig Ramsey, ACI Worldwide’s global head of account-to-account payments, described the market as moving from stablecoin “possibility to practicality”.
Orchestration Becomes the Bridge Between Old and New Rails
Although the initiative uses USDC and Circle’s infrastructure, ACI says the platform is designed to support a broader ecosystem of payment networks, digital-asset providers and future settlement models.
That makes the project less about promoting a single stablecoin and more about testing how digital money can coexist with existing payment infrastructure.
For Latin American institutions, that could prove particularly important as real-time payments, cross-border flows and digital assets increasingly converge.
The strategic significance lies in the integration layer: stablecoins are unlikely to gain mainstream institutional traction by replacing existing rails outright, but they may scale if banks can orchestrate them alongside established payments infrastructure through a single operational model.
