Ecommpay has become one of the first global payment providers to integrate Apple Pay QR, Apple’s new cross-platform enhancement designed to bring its flagship wallet to any device or browser.

The development marks a notable shift in Apple’s traditionally closed ecosystem and promises merchants a tangible lift in conversion rates, particularly among high-value Apple users browsing on non-Apple hardware.

For years, merchants have wrestled with a structural checkout problem: roughly 70% of global users browse on Windows devices, yet Apple Pay has historically been confined to Safari and Apple hardware.

This mismatch meant that even customers who preferred to pay with Apple Pay were often forced into more cumbersome alternatives — a friction point that translated directly into basket abandonment.

Apple Pay QR represents Apple’s most consequential attempt yet to close that gap.

With the new capability, any consumer can select Apple Pay at checkout and be presented with a one-time QR code.

By scanning it with an iPhone or iPad, the payment is authenticated and completed through the user’s Wallet app — with no need to re-enter card details on the non-Apple device.

Tokenised security, biometric authentication and the standard Apple Pay flow remain intact.

For merchants, the commercial impact could be meaningful.

iOS users are well-established as the industry’s most lucrative cohort, generating more than twice the revenue per user in travel and retail e-commerce than their Android counterparts.

Enabling these customers to transact seamlessly, regardless of the device they browse on, addresses a long-standing revenue leakage point.

The QR modality also provides a useful bridge to in-store behaviour, familiar to shoppers who routinely scan codes at point-of-sale.

Ecommpay says the integration is live immediately and requires no additional development from merchants; Apple Pay QR is automatically enabled across its Payment Page and works with all existing payment methods.

Features such as currency selection and the firm’s ‘Try Again’ flow for failed transactions remain fully supported.

Arturs Zaremba, who leads Ecommpay’s Internal Payment Solutions Product Stream, said the rollout “opens payment capabilities to the entire digital landscape”, removing device-based friction and helping merchants capture stronger Apple Pay-driven conversion performance.

By moving early, Ecommpay positions its clients at the sharp end of checkout innovation — and, crucially, makes Apple Pay accessible to every customer, not just those holding Apple hardware.
