Vipps MobilePay, the Nordic region’s dominant mobile wallet, has announced a partnership with Open Banking provider Tink to bring Pay by Bank functionality to its Finnish users.

The move strengthens the wallet’s position in the competitive Finnish payments landscape by integrating account-to-account (A2A) payments directly into its e-commerce checkout.

With more than 12 million users across Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Finland, Vipps MobilePay processes over 1 billion transactions annually.

In Finland alone, nearly 3 million consumers use the app, making the country a key growth market.

Under the agreement, all Finnish MobilePay customers will now be able to link multiple domestic bank accounts to their wallet, enabling them to initiate secure payments directly from their chosen account.

The collaboration will also see Tink’s Pay by Bank integrated as one of just three payment options in Vipps MobilePay’s e-commerce checkout in Finland.

By embedding Tink’s connectivity into the wallet, the companies aim to offer consumers a faster, more intuitive way to pay while giving merchants a streamlined alternative to cards.

Perttu Kröger, Finland Country Manager at Vipps MobilePay, described the initiative as central to the firm’s strategy: “Account-based payments have a strong presence in the future of Vipps MobilePay in Finland.

We’re excited to partner with Tink and utilise their Pay by Bank product to offer almost three million Finnish MobilePay users a secure way to make simple payments straight from their bank account.”

Tink’s Head of Payments, Ian Morrin, added: “By combining our connectivity with Vipps MobilePay’s popular wallet experience, consumers get a fast, intuitive way to pay. This is a great example of how Pay by Bank can power everyday payments at scale.”

The partnership underscores how A2A payments are gaining traction in European markets, reflecting consumer demand for greater convenience, security and choice at checkout.
