In an interesting development for Germany’s regulated igaming market, DIMOCO has secured authorisation to offer carrier billing as a payment option, with NEO.bet confirmed as the first operator to adopt the method.

This approval by Germany’s gambling regulator, the Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL), marks a significant expansion of alternative payments within Europe’s fourth-largest igaming market.

DIMOCO, licensed by Austria’s Financial Markets Authority, pioneered a model allowing mobile network operators (MNOs) to act as its agents.

Under this framework, DIMOCO retains compliance responsibility and conducts KYC procedures for bettors, thereby facilitating seamless carrier billing payments in tightly regulated sectors.

The company already provides this solution to sportsbooks in Poland and Austria, including to market leader STS.

Bettina Sommer, Senior Vice-President of Sales at DIMOCO, commented on the strategic significance of the approval: “We are honoured to receive recognition from the GGL.

Germans favour simplified and alternative payment options over traditional cards, so direct carrier billing is expected to resonate strongly with players.”

The solution allows payments to be charged directly to a bettor’s mobile account, enabling fast transactions without the need to input card or bank details.

Importantly, due to strict regulatory and operator requirements, carrier billing will remain exclusive to licensed igaming firms, potentially giving them a compliance-led edge over unlicensed competitors.

Galina Werner, Managing Director at Greenvest Betting Limited, parent of NEO.bet, welcomed the development: “The GGL approval process was rigorous and DIMOCO proved an ideal partner to navigate this complexity.

We are excited to be first to market with this innovative payment method.”

Germany’s strong mobile landscape underpins this move.

GSMA forecasts smartphone connections will reach 111 million by 2030, while 2024 data showed an 87% mobile subscriber penetration rate and 83% smartphone adoption.

As Germany’s igaming market evolves, direct carrier billing could redefine player payment experiences while reinforcing regulatory compliance.
