PayPal has revealed that users can now add their PayPal and Venmo credit or debit cards to their Apple Wallet – a move that was announced last year as part of a trio of ways PayPal was planning to expand its adoption of Apple Pay.

PayPal integrates to Apple Wallet

This integration now empowers clients to make payments, whether in-store, shopping online, or using various apps, all through the Apple Pay.

This move has been a long time coming, as the vast majority of other banks and card issuers have supported Apple Wallet and Apple Pay for years.

PayPal users can head to the PayPal app on their iPhone and look for a new banner on the app’s homepage that says: “Pay with your iPhone.” Tapping this will open the Apple Wallet app, where you can add your PayPal credit or debit card.

How to Get Started

  • Open Apple Wallet on your iOS device.
  • Add Debit or Credit Card: Once inside the app, navigate to the “add debit or credit card” option.
  • Scan or Enter Details: At this point, users have the choice to either scan your PayPal or Venmo credit or debit card using your device’s camera or manually enter the card details.

What’s Next?

While the integration requires users to add their cards through the Apple Wallet app, PayPal has plans in the pipeline.

In the coming months, users can look forward to adding their PayPal or Venmo cards directly through the respective PayPal or Venmo apps.

This added flexibility promises to streamline the payment process further, making transactions even more straightforward.

Making Payments

In-Store Purchases: For in-store purchases, simply enable Apple Pay by double-clicking the side button on your device, authenticate using Face ID or Touch ID, and then hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the reader.

Online and In-App Purchases: When making online or in-app purchases, navigate to the checkout page and tap the Apple Pay button. Your payment will be processed seamlessly, eliminating the hassle of entering card details manually.

Recent Developments

The integration follows on the heels of PayPal’s recent announcement regarding PYUSD, its stablecoin designed for payments and transfers.

Just two weeks ago, PayPal made PYUSD available on Venmo, opening up new possibilities for seamless and secure digital transactions.

PYUSD, issued by Paxos Trust Company and backed by US dollar deposits, short-term US Treasuries, and similar cash equivalents, promises stability and reliability in the digital payment landscape.
